Right Bird - Ace went down the levee on the left then made a hard right. He hunted the area behind the hay bale and got his bird.

Left Bird - Going wide left out, Ace got in to the pond. Getting back out and up on the levee, he hunted down the levee then went deep and wide right of the guns. Getting behind the cedars he got his bird.

Left Bird - Tatum went down to the base of the levee then she took a wide right. She made some circles mid field deep but hunted her way back to the cedar and her bird.

Right Bird - She angled towards the guns, then turned right of the cedars behind the hay bale. Hunting deep, she back to the tree line and then to her bird.

Right Bird - Taking a good angle down, M got left of the guns. She made a loop deep then headed to the tree line and then to her bird.

Right Bird - Boomer ran high on the levee then dropped heading mid field and got deep. He was heading for the left gun. continued to hunt deep and behind the guns. He got around the cedar then worked the center of the field moving to the right bird.

Left Bird - Boomer took the same line to mid field and got deep hunting left and right. He ended up getting picked up on this bird.

Right Bird - Link angled to the area in front of the guns. She got deep to the tree line mid way down. Working the tree line, she came back to the fall area and to her bird.

Left Bird - She crossed the base of the levee, then pushed wide right to the middle of the field to get very deep. She hunted her way back to the cedar and to the bird.

Right Bird - Redd took the middle down and started hunting way short at the base of the hill. he moved to the right bird and hunted but missed it. Going over to the left bird, he then went back to the middle of the field for a hunt. He had an extended hunt covering both birds and then got the right hand bird.

Left Bird - He took the line down to the base of the levee and went under the arc. he hunted the cedars until he found his bird.

Left Bird - Rush went down to the middle of the field getting deep of the right mark. She came back to the hay bale by the right bird, then switched to the land hand mark.

Right Bird - He took a hard right to the tree line and followed it down to get in front of the right guns and got deep. Rush had to get picked up on this bird.

8th Series - Test Dogs

Marty came to the line at 7:42 am

Left Bird - Beautiful line across the levee straight to the hen.

Right Bird - Marty angled down the terrace deep left of the gunners. He turned right towards the bale of hay then got his bird.


TC came to the line at 7:49 am.

Left Bird - Excellent angle down the terrace. she fell off to the area right of the gunners. A few loops and she started to switch. The gunners came out to assist her.

Right Bird - TC took the line towards the guns. Getting left and deep, she hunted the open field and both sides of the hay bale then got her bird.


Eighth Series – Land Double with Two Dead Hen Pheasants

Test 8, Land Double with Two Dead Hen Pheasants, is set beside a beautiful lake. The mat faces southwest up on a hill. Both marks are down a terraced hill to a large flat field. The right side of the field is a dense tree line, while the left side is a very steep levee that angles down into a the field and is shaped in a semi circle.

The right hand gunners, bird 1,  are sitting by a hay bale and throws this hen pheasant right at 209 yards. They throw this hen towards the tree line tucked behind a hay bale. The line to this bird is down the terraced field into the flat field below.

The left hand gunners, bird 2, sit in front of the line deep into a field at 230 yards. This hen pheasant is thrown towards a heavy clump of cedars at the base of the steep levee. The line to this bird takes the dog half way down the terrace and then they need to angle cross the levee. 



Day 4 - Thursday, March 8, 2020

 Good Morning all! Today we start the 4th day of competition of the 2020 National Retriever Derby Club Championship! We will start with the 8th Series with 20 of the top Derby dogs in the Nation! Our starting dog #7, will be called to the line at 8:00 am.

Today the sky will be partly cloudy, however, the temps are going to climb to the mid 80s. As of right now we have no wind factor and zero chance of rain.

Future Forecast - Thursday, October 8, 2020

 Here you folks...another sunny day with the highs in the low 80s! 

Sedalia never disappoints us with the weather!




Day 3 - In The Books

 Wow, one day three series completed.

Our first series was the 5th, Land Double with Dead Rooster & Hen Flyer. We started at 7:56 am with the first running dog and ended at 9:43 am. We had 24 dogs to start and we dropped one due to a pick up. Dog #15 was the only one to get a no bird, however, he got 2 times.

The second series for the day was 6th, Water Double where the ducks where thrown 322 yards and 252 yards from the mat. We started this series at 10:42 with dog #20 and ended it at 1:44 pm. Callbacks came in and 21 dogs were called back to the 7th. The two dogs dropped, one had to be resent and the other needed assistance from the gunners.

The third and final test for the day was the quick 7th Series Land Double with two hen Pheasants. We started this test at 2:49 pm and completed it at 4:04 pm. Just under two hours all 21 dogs competed this test. We only had one no bird/re-run with our first dog to the line. 21 dogs were called and 1 dogs was dropped.

That is it for Day 3! I know this blogger is going to relax her fingers tonight! 😉

Callbacks to the 8th Series

 20 dogs are called back to the 8th Series: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 30.

Dogs dropped: # 2.

We will be starting the 8th series with dog #7.

Test dogs at 7:45 am with the first running dog @ 8:00 am.

Conclusion of the 7th Series - Land Double with Hen Pheasants

We started this quick series at 2:49 pm and 21 dogs completed it in just under two hours. Dog #27 started it off with a no-bird, so our first dog to actually complete the series was #28. We had a quick re-bird at 3:26 pm after dog #12. We were back in action with #13 came to the line at 3:31 pm. And we completed this series at 4:04 pm with dog # 26.

We only had the one no-bird/re-run.

We will be posting the callbacks as soon as we get them and any other announcements.

Right - King went wide left and stopped and turned back right then went straight to the bird.

Left - he came in to the left, then turned right for a loop and quickly went back down to his bird.




23. Last Chance To Rebel, "Chance," YLM, Jason Smith

 To the line at 3:55 pm

Right - Chance made a quick job of going in just left of the bird, a quick turn and he got it.

Left (long throw) - He came in deep on this long throw, but he got on his second pass.




22. Seaside's The Saint, "Simon," BLM, Jason Baker

To the line at 3:52 pm

Right - Good job on this bird.

Left -(A hawk landed on this bird and gunners had to show it away.) - Excellent line and mark!

Left - Ace went left and short of the bird. He had to circle back to get it.

Left - Going under the arc to the cover, she made a quick turn and got the bird.

Right - TJ's line went under the arc up wind of the bird. He got deep in his hunt going over by the guns then back left to the bird.

Left - He was on the right line going out. Went under the arc of the throw then hunted the cover deep for 2 passes then got his bird when he moved left and in towards the mat.

To the line - 3:33 pm

Right - Boomer went left of the fall, made a turn left then right and went to the bird.

Left - Getting under the arc and to the brush, he turned left and got the bird.

To the line at 3:31 pm

Right - Houli went under the arc up wind, then turned and worked it out to her bird.

Left - Up wind and got close to the guns. She went to the brush and quickly left to her mark.




7th Series - Re-Bird / Gun Change

 Wow is this test going fast!

We started at 2:49 pm and less than an hour at 3:26 pm we are re-birding!

Ten more dogs to go and we will have the 7th Series completed!

Left - Took the left side of the field, Link went two steps past and stopped, turned and went and got his bird.

Right - Redd went past the mark and established a hunt up wind. He quickly turned to the left and got it.

Left - Nice Job, he got out just right of the bird, turned and put his nose on it.

Right - Rush came in wide left on a long throw. He turned right and worked his way straight to the bird.

Left - He up wind in front of the guns getting to the cover, he made two loops and got the bird.

Left - Ash went just to the right of the fall and got into the bushes. He quickly turned back and got the bird.

Right - Went out right of the bird, Rocky took one turn and a loop left to get it.

Left - Went through the test to the cover and quickly went left to come back down and get the bird.

To the line at 3:06 pm

Right - Came in up wind to make one good turn to the left and got the bird.

Left - Nice line going up wind close to the guns. He circled deep then went by the tree then moved quickly down to the bird.




4. Croc's Appetite For Destruction, "Axl," BLM, Christian Alt

To the line at 3:03 pm

Right - Straight to the fall area then to the bird - Good Job

Left - Axl went out wide right. He adjusted the line then went straight to the bird.




3. Lone Star's Ramblin Randy, "Randy," YLM, David Graf

 To the line at 3:00 pm

Right - Perfect line

Left - Came in on top of the bird - Nice.




2. Ford's Take A Chance On Me, "Chance," BLM, Larry Ford

 To the line at 2:56 pm

Right - Chance came in just left, where he took two steps to get the bird.

Left - Up wind by the guns, he went deep right to the road and hunted the cover down to the base of the hill and got the bird.




30. Rimfire's I'm Your Huckleberry, "Huck," BLM, Rod Sage

Right - Very nice line straight to the bird.

Left - Adjust the line as he ran. He came in up wind and hunted the cover deep then to the left. Huck came back and got the bird.




28. Dry Creeks Tru Blu, "Trudy," BLF, George Metka

To the line at 2:49 pm

Right - Came in one step to the left of the mark. Very Nice

Left - Perfect Line!




No Bird - 27. Toplines Everlasting Rock, "Rocky," BLM, Marc Patton

 No Bird for our starting dog. The bird went to far.

Rocky will be back in 7th spot back for his re-run.

7th Series - Test Dogs

Female Test Dog, "TC," came to the line at 2:37 pm

Right - Went straight to the bird.

Left - Straight to the fall area for a quick turn and got it.



Male Test Dog, "Marty," came to the line at 2:40 pm

Right - One tight loop just to the right of the mark and a quick turn to grab the bird.

Left - Excellent line to get his bird.


Seventh Series – Land Double with Two Hen Pheasants

The mat for Test 7 sits on a mound facing south. The wind is out of the west. There is a road that runs front to back through the test, splitting it. 

Bird 1 lays 202 yards straight in front of the mat. The guns sit to the left of the lone tree on the side of a steep hill. Everything on the left side of the road slants to the left getting steeper the farther you go out.

Bird 2 is to the right of the main road. This bird is thrown right to from the base of a mound back towards the back of the first bird. This bird is 164 yards from the mat.
 
 

Callbacks to the 7th Series

  21 dogs are called back to the 7th Series: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 30.

Dogs dropped: # 29 and 32.

We will be starting the 7th series with dog #27.
