We started the second day of the NRDC Championship with 29 dogs starting and at 7:59 am dog #18 coming to the line to start the 3rd Series a Land Double with two pheasants. We had the gun change for this series after dog #32. We made it through this series with no handles, pick ups, no bird/re-runs. The series concluded at 10:17 am. Callbacks came in shortly after the end of the series, with 27 dogs being callback to the 4th Series. Dogs # 1 & 11 were dropped.
The 4th Series, a Water Series with two drakes started after a bit of a delay due to a test change. Dog #26 came to the line at 11:48 am. However, another short delayed while the gunners had to get a live duck off the test site pond. We got back to running the dogs at 12:02 pm. We got through are first 13 running dogs before our gun change at 1:36 am. We completed the 4th Series and the second day after 7.5 hours of being in the field at 3:32 pm, We ended the series with 2 needing assistance and 1 pick up. Callbacks came in again quickly after the series was completed with 24 dogs being called and 3 dropped which were #11, 17 & 24.
It was announced that the test dogs we will called to the line tomorrow morning at 7:45 am with the first running dog #9 to start the 5th Series at 8:00 am.
24 dogs are called back to the 5th Series: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32.
3 Dogs dropped: # 11, 17 and 24.
We will start the 5th Series tomorrow morning with dog # 9. Test dogs at 7:45 am with the first running dog at 8:00 am.

The 4th Series started with a delay as the judges wanted to change the test around after the test dogs completed their runs. With 27 dogs starting this series, dog #26 was the first dog called to the line at 11:48 am. During its run, he flushed up a live duck from the pond. We had a bit of a delay again as the gunners worked on getting the live duck out the pond. With the live duck successfully gone, dog #27 came to the line at 12:02 pm. The gun changed after the 13th running dog, #8 finished its series at 1:26 pm. Making short work of the change, dog #9 was at the line ready to go. We completed the rest of the dogs at 3:32 pm. This series taking a total of 3 hours 44 minutes which averaged being just over 8 minutes per dog.
We had two needing assistance and one dog picked up!

Flyer - Nice Job getting this duck.
Long Bird - King went down into the water and crossed the 1st piece to the area outside the point. He kept swimming on an excellent line to the fall area and got his bird.

Flyer - Perfect Job
Long Bird - Very wide left getting in the water. He got behind the tree at the far end, then headed back to the flyer. The long guns helped. He was picked up.

Long Bird - Down the hill and into the pond, Chance was aimed towards the tip of the point. He got to the end and turned left. Getting back up on the point, then into the back piece of water, he had a nice angle. He landed just below the guns and ran straight to the bird.

Long Bird - Simon got down the hill and across the 1st piece of water. Getting over the tip of the point, he took a great angle towards the guns. Getting out and angle up the hill to get the bird.
Came to the line at 2:41 pm.
Flyer - Straight to get his duck.
Long Bird - Tatum went down the hill into the pond. She swam to the point and crossed it 2/3 the way out. Getting into the far water, on angle she beached by the trees, then angled across the field to her mark.
Came to the line at 2:34 pm.
Flyer - Great line to the duck.
Long Bird - M went down the hill going wide left which was a good place to be. Lunging into the water, she crossed the end of the point. Then she angled towards the shore and came out by the trees. She cut along the bank and went for her bird.

Flyer - Nice job on this duck.
Long Bird - Tucker went down the hill and into the pond going over the point half way down. He got back up on the point and stood look back at his handler for assistance.

Long Bird - TJ went down the hill and across the pond, where he crossed the point about half way out.. He stayed in the right corner of the water. When he got out, he ran out behind the guns, then hunted the top of the hill on the near side back and fourth until he worked his way to his bird.

Long Bird - Getting down the hill and into the pond, Bommer crossed the point 2/3 the way out. Swimming with a hard turn to the shore, he landed between the trees. He drove to the top of the hill, hunted the wrong side of the guns before he moved to the far side of them and got his bird.
Flyer - Nice Line to the bird.
Long Bird - Link got into the pond and crossed the point half way out. Swimming on an angle towards the guns, he cut to the shore early at the trees. he angled across the hill and straight to his bird.

Long Bird - Clue took a way wide line out across the middle to the very far shore. She had to be assited by the gunners.
We had quite the start to the 4th Series. Our test was set but after the test dogs completed runs the judges decided they needed to change up the test. Our first running dog #26 finally got to the line at 11:48 am, to only flush out a live duck out of the tree line. After he completed his run it took a bit long for the gunners to get the live duck removed from the pond so we could continue. Dog # 27 got to the line at 12:02 pm.
Once we got this series going, it has been going pretty well. Most dogs seem to be getting the flyer without much trouble. If there is an issue it would be on the long bird and the swim to the point. But overall the dog work has been consistent.
We currently have sunny skies with the temp at 73 degrees. The wind is coming out of the WSW at 8 mph.
Dog # 9 will be coming to the line soon.

Long Bird - Rush went down the hill to the pond. He crossed the point half way out. Swimming at an angle, he got out half way to the gunners. He ran to the fall area and found his bird.
Gun change after Rush completed his series.
Flyer - Straight to the bird.
Long Bird - Into the pond, Randy crossed the point not even quite half way out. He took a right corner of the water past the point and ran the bank all the way to the fall area. Had a small hunt for the bird.

Long Bird - Chance got into the first piece of water, over the point and entered the second piece of water. He took the small cover of the water and ran behind the guns and came out to get his bird.

Long Bird - Bea went into the pond, crossed the point half way out. She swam maybe half the way to guns, got out of the water along the hillside to go straight tot he bird.
Came to the line at 12:31 pm.
Flyer - Ran past the duck, swam back, came out and got the bird.
Long Bird - Ravin got down into the pond. She took a right angle towards the point, crossing it 2/3 of the way down. she than angled on to the shore way short of the guns. Running past the gunners she made one quick turn and got the bird.
Came to the line at 12:24 pm.
Flyer - Huck ran just past the bird. A big jump in the water and he swam straight to it.
Long Bird - He went down into the pond, lunging across the tip of the point. Swimming straight towards the guns, Huck exited the water and ran across the hill straight to the bird.
Flyer - Nice line to the bird.
Long Bird - Carli went down into the pond. Going over the point about 2/3 the way out, she swam just past the guns and went straight to get her bird.

Long Bird - Trudy went down the hill into the point. She got out and crossed the tip of the point. She lunged back into the water and swam towards the gunners. She got out of the water just short of the gunners, then ran angle up and straight to get her bird.

Long Bird - Rocky went down in to the big pond and over the tip end of the point. He angled his swim towards the gunners. He exited at the base of the gunners station then went directly to his bird.

Flyer - Rip angled down the hill and into the water, then went straight to his bird.
Long Bird - He went down the hill and into the big pond. Getting over the middle point, he swam to the base of the trees and flushed a live duck out. He got back on track, exited the water and angled back across the hill to get his bird.
Please Note: After the first two test dogs completed the series, the judges decided to change the test. This is why we only have one test dog to run the test after the changes were make.
Test Dog Labrador Female #3 - Windy Hill's Shoot For the Moon "Luna" with handler Mike Moroz came to the line at 11:39 am.
Flyer - Swimming bird - Luna went straight across the terrace on a left angle down into the water and straight to get her bird.
Long Bird - She went down the terrace and into the big pond and toe nailed the tip of the long point. She swam to the far shore, got out and turned left to go across the hill on to her bird.
Luna completed this test at 11:46 am.
Test 4 is a Water Test sitting on the same hill as test two. We are facing north this time looking out over several ponds. The dead drake station is 275 yards from the mat. This bird is shot first to the left. The line to this bird is down the hill into the big pond, then over a long point and back into the big pond to the far shore, where the dog will then go up a terraced hill to get the bird. The gunners are behind a large clump of brush and bushes.
27 dogs are called back to the 4th Series: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32.
2 Dogs dropped: #1 and 10.
We will be starting the 4th Series with dog # 26.
The 3rd Series started today at 7:59 am with dog # 18. We zipped through the first 14 dogs in an hour before we had our gun change after dog #32 at 8:59 am. The rest of the 15 dogs completed their series in one hour ten minutes which put the 3rd series in the books at 10:17 am, averaging just over 4.5 minutes per dog.
There were no pick up, no bird/re-runs and no dogs had to be helped out by the guns in this series.

Go Bird - Good line under the arc of the throw. Loosey then got a bit deep but quickly turned back to the fall area and found her bird.
Bird 2 - Going up the field towards the guns, Loosey crossed the road and got deep. She hunted left adn right deep, but made her way back to the tree, then missed the bird. She got back out at the top and then back to her bird.

Go Bird - Straight to the fall area and on his bird.
Bird 2 - He took a line up just left of the gunners where he hunted deep. He then came back down to his bird.
The gun changed for the 3rd series happened at 8:59 am after dog #32 completed the series. An hour into the 3rd series, 15 dogs have completed this series which is averaging 4 minutes per dog.
The temps is at 57 degrees and now its forecast to get up to 80 degrees today. The wind as seemed to die down coming in from the SW at 9 mph.
